When I turned 21 years old, my father bought me my first compacted digital camera (Sony DSC-T200), and I instantly fell in love with photography.
What would you say your style is and has it changed throughout the years? If so why?
Getting to meet different people, to know their story, their life and their character; capturing that essence, is what inspires me for my pictures.
How do you approach a shoot? Do you pre-plan or is it a click and run?
Depends on the occasion to be honest. For big budget shoots, I definitely plan it out with mood boards etc. For collaborations, I normally just wing it.
Is there an end goal you’re trying to achieve with your images, be it an aesthetic or story?
Photo style is forever evolving and there’s no end to it, but my end goal with my career is to shoot for Vogue / Harper’s Bazaar.
Do you have an influence you can share?
To be honest, I don’t really have any influence from anyone, nor aiming to influence anyone. As long as you have ‘the eye’ / can capture the essence of the subject, then you’ve achieved the purpose of photography.
What inspires you?
My dad: Always give it 110% on whatever you do. Work hard; Play hard.
Is there such a thing as a bad photograph?
Just my opinion:
· An image that doesn’t communicate with the audience.
· At least follow the rule of third.
· Over / underexposed photos.
· Too much HDR = NoNo
Are you looking for a career in photography or are you just having fun?
Already have a career, but could definitely take it further à la Harper’s Bazaar!
Which social media platforms do you use and why?
Mostly just Instagram. Best photo sharing platform so far.
Which photographers do you mainly follow on social media?
Photographers that shoot portraits, automotive, urban and architecture.
What are your thoughts on mobile photography versus DSLR / mirrorless?
As Chase Jarvis said: “The best camera is the one you have on you.”
What’s your main go to camera, lenses and how did you make that choice?
Just a Sony a7ii, portraits with 55mm F1.8, urban/architecture/automotive with 21mm F2.0. I use them purely because they are the two lenses that my dad bought for me with the camera. Lol
What is your dream location to shoot at?
Describe your favourite picture and how you captured it?
Definitely the public housing with the circular atrium in Hong Kong. Me and my friend had to run up 20 levels worth of stairs to get the image. It was definitely frightening for my friend to sit on the edge of the 20 stories high balcony.
In three words how would you describe your photography?
Fulfilling / Interesting / Charismatic
How do you feel about better quality cameras being put into smart phones?
Definitely handy for us creators, as cameras can sometimesbecome bulky and inconvenient.
What are your thoughts on expensive cameras? Do you think they create better images?
Nope. It’s always about the photographer, not the camera.
