What is your name and where are you from? Rhiannon Laite Brighton, UK
How long have you been taking pictures? About 5/6 years.
When did you get into photography and why? I never intentionally planned to get into photography, instead it was small part of my media degree. I enjoyed the Photography aspect of the course so much I chose to switch degrees, it went from there.
What would you say your style is and has it changed throughout the years? If so why? I cant really pinpoint a style, I tend to shift quite a lot between them, but if I would say a go to and favourite, I would pick portraiture, conceptual...or anything with a dark twist.
How do you approach a shoot? Do you pre-plan or is it a click and run?
It depends on the shoot. If its a big Fine Art / Conceptual shoot then a lot of team members will be involved, so pre-planning is key! If its just a Portraiture / Fashion shoot and usually just me and the mode, we can aim to shoot that day or the next.
Is there an end goal you’re trying to achieve with your images, be it an aesthetic or story?
I'd love to own my own personal studio, but I wouldn't say that was an end goal as I'd love to progress from there too!
Do you have an influences you can share? I'm influenced by a number of things Movies, Comics, Fairytales, Poetry, Literature (Mainly the Brothers Grimm), anything that grabs me and has something I can visually draw from.
What inspires you? One of my main inspirations for starting photography was the work of Tim Walker and Annie Leibovitz – their incredible skill to create otherworldly stories within their photographs and attention to every minute detail within.
Is there such a thing as a bad photograph?
Everybody's opinion is different, every piece of art is different.
Are you looking for a career in photography or are you just having fun?
Absolutely looking for a career!
Which social media platforms do you use and why?
I mainly use Instagram and Facebook, occasionally PurplePort for new models or casting calls. Both Instagram and Facebook have been a great way for me to connect with other creatives and find work
Which photographers do you mainly follow on social media?
I follow a varied style of photographers on my account – everything from fashion to fetish.
What are your thoughts on mobile photography versus DSLR / mirrorless?
I'll always love my DSLR and couldn't see myself as a mobile photographer, dont get me wrong there are some great cameras on phones now a days..but its just not the same, to me anyway.
What’s your main go to camera, lenses and how did you make that choice?
Canon 5D MIII, 50mm. Always.
What is your dream location to shoot at?
The Crimson Peak Manor.
Describe your favourite picture and how you captured it? I have so many, I wouldnt know where to start! I'm really enjoying a lot of the table shoots I have been doing recently which play with 'macabre/dark humour like' concepts and idioms, all of which are created in the studio then finished in Photoshop – a lot of the work within them is post-production to create that hyper stylized and illustrated feel to them.
In three words how would you describe your photography? Colourful, Conceptual, Digital.
How do you feel about better quality cameras being put into smart phones? I think its great!
What are your thoughts on expensive cameras? Do you think they create better images?.
Not at all! Some of the greatest photographers in the world created work with the bare minimum.
