My name is Daniel Bidiuk, I have been living for 15 years in Sochaczew not far from Warsaw. Photography is my passion for which I devote most of my free time.
How long have you been taking pictures?
I was interested in photography from an early age, at the age of 9 I received my first camera. It was a simple apparatus for the production of CCCP "Smena 8". Fixing my friends with a film gave me a lot of joy, and it has remained so until today. Over time, the camera has been converted into a more advanced model Zenit 12XP , which already gave the opportunity to exchange lenses and control the depth of field. Together with two friends from the neighbourhood, we launched our photographic darkroom in which we developed our passion.
What would you say your style is and has it changed throughout the years? If so why?
My style is very changeable, it all depends on the situation in the frame. In truth, I do not shoot in one style, but more and more often I focus on black and white portraits.
First of all, I photograph people and look for emotions in them that are invisible to others. I realized how fleeting we are and how quickly we pass away. That's why I want to stop a moment and get back photographed people after years to the time of the detained in the pictures. After many years, browsing through old photographs brings a lot of joy and tender memories.
How do you approach a shoot? Do you pre-plan or is it a click and run?
Depending on the session, whether it is planned with the contracting party or is a street portrait session. I like the most improvise in the existing conditions and light
Do you have an influences you can share?
What affects me the most is the person photographed by me, I like to talk to her before and during the session, then mutual trust is gained and the photos look better.
What inspires you?
If it's about the favourites of my photographers, I do not hide that it's Peter Lindbergh and Peter Coulson.
Is there such a thing as a bad photograph?
I think not, if there is content in it that is consistent with what the photographer wanted to do.
Are you looking for a career in photography or are you just having fun?
Rather good fun, a man must have some hobby to break away from everyday life.
Which social media platforms do you use and why?
Like everyone I have an account on Facebook and Instagram, I also have profiles for 500px and 35photo. These are the most popular places for me to publish my photographs and thematic meetings of people connected with stopping time in the frame.
Which photographers do you mainly follow on social media?
Due to the progressive restriction of reach through Facebook, I have often started using Instagram, but it also happens similarly and I think people will be moving away from these platforms in favour of something new.
What are your thoughts on mobile photography versus DSLR / mirrorless?
I think that mirrorless photographers will be out of the DSLR market, a matter of 3-5 years.
What’s your main go to camera, lenses and how did you make that choice?
I use the Nikon system, I like its functionality and ergonomics, but I also use the Sony A7r mirrorless camera which gives the possibility of connecting old analog glasses that have their soul.
What is your dream location to shoot at?
NY and London street.
Describe your favourite picture and how you captured it?
I do not like my photos.
In three words how would you describe your photography?
Simple portraits above all in the existing street light.
How do you feel about better quality cameras being put into smart phones?
It's a nice thing, but I would forbid to bring mass events to events, i.e. concerts matches and tp, on which people are not too interested in what is on stage, but they do good insta story.
What are your thoughts on expensive cameras? Do you think they create better images?.
Expensive cameras are partly good marketing, today the matrices in the cameras have comparable parameters, if you do not require us to be a super large printouts are not worth paying for technical innovations, for me the lens is more important. With a lens for 30 Euro you can make such nice photos that everyone will ask what was made.
