My name is Alex Heitz and I come from Gießen (Germany)
How long have you been taking pictures?
I think it´s about 5-6 years ago
When did you get into photography and why?
With my first DSLR I began to photograph landscapes and flowers :-D After that I tried to shoot some friends. Oh my god...these pictures were so terrible. During that time I always had a look at some photographers and their awesome pictures. I pushed myself to get better, but it didn´t really work. But then I had the chance to photograph 2 playmates. I was so nervous. First lingerie/nude shooting. So what should I say...the results were pretty nice and thenceforth I didn´t shoot landscapes any more ;-)
What would you say your style is and has it changed throughout the years? If so why?
My style is really not easy to describe. The reason for that is that I always like to try new things. The only thing that´s possibly never changed that much is the color grading. First 2 years I did my shootings only onlocation in hotelrooms or something like this with available light. In the last years there was so much new stuff I tried like fashion, beauty, editorial and also product photography.
How do you approach a shoot? Do you pre-plan or is it a click and run?
Usually I´ve got some moods, but I do not really plan a shooting. I love natural moves and expressions. The model should be free to act. So let the shooting run and see what happens ;-)
Is there an end goal you’re trying to achieve with your images, be it an aesthetic or story?
No. There is no end goal. I just wanna have fun, testing some new things, meeting new people,..
Do you have an influences you can share? Not really. Influence comes from everywhere. Books, photographers, socialmedia, friends,...
What inspires you?
Of course other photographers but also some stories I see in everyday life, magazines or tv
Is there such a thing as a bad photograph? In my opinion, all photos are different, otherwise life would be really monotonous and boring. I would never see a photographer as bad in a photo that he made
Are you looking for a career in photography or are you just having fun?
Everything started as a hobby, meanwhile it has become a second job for me. I would be lying if I did not say that I would prefer to do photography as a main job.
Which social media platforms do you use and why? I currently use most of time instagram and I still spend a little bit time on facebook, 500px, behance and pinterest. All for inspiration and networking
Which photographers do you mainly follow on social media? Puh there are too much ;-)
What are your thoughts on mobile photography versus DSLR / mirrorless?
Great opportunity to try something new, at the end the camera doesn’t matter it is the message of the picture
What’s your main go to camera, lenses and how did you make that choice? Sony a7iii with 85mm GM. It´s the perfect portrait lense for me and the camera is great.
What is your dream location to shoot at? A big industrial loft
Describe your favourite picture and how you captured it? I don´t have a favourite picture. Every picture is different and has an other storie. There are many pictures I love
In three words how would you describe your photography? Sensual, authentic, provocative
How do you feel about better quality cameras being put into smart phones? As they always say “the best camera is the one you always have with you” so it can only be a good thing.
What are your thoughts on expensive cameras? Do you think they create better images?. They make your work easier but for sure you won´t get better images.
